Investigation 2

Medieval Town Map
(https://www.oxpal.com/medieval-town-map.html)
Over the week I went and looked up more ideas that would correlate with the story idea I wanted to put together. For the town I wanted to go for a medieval town. A sort of small town with a medieval style to it seemed like it fit the idea well to me. Something like the picture above is what I want to go for, a little town at the bottom of a hill. Besides the town I wanted to look up modeling tactics. Such as this scythe making video

When I was looking up weapon model making I came across this youtuber, I was really intrigued on how process of making models. I've watched a few of his videos and I really like the end results of what he makes, I plan to use these videos as a sort of stepping stone for me with making these modeled weapons. Besides the concept of chosen by destiny I was curious about implementing with vr and making things can be used in a vr environment. Since I own a headset I have the capabilities to try this out, I would have to look into it. I think going into making things for vr would really affect how I choose to take my future and what I really want to do modeling and animating.

Work Log

Inverstigation 1

What I have decided I would do for my investigation is to start with the concept chosen by destiny. I was having trouble trying to figure out a concept to do and the idea of what separates a concept from an idea or theme. I like the idea of this concept and wanted to see what I could come up with for this concept. From this concept I came up with a little story and I wanted to see how well I could do with something like this. The story idea is that of where the main character comes to some kind of drama that they do not want to deal with so they run off to a cliff-side where they decide to sit and watch there village. When all of a sudden a sword falls down from the sky and lands behind them. They investigate the fallen weapon, and after a bit pull said weapon out of the ground. After doing so they come to realize that their home town is being attacked by some monster and they are the one who must get rid of the trouble thrashing their town.

I looked up some sword designs and saw some really cool collections of mythical swords that I thought would fun to implement as shown in the picture above. I am currently working on a storyboard for this concept and want to see how well I can implement this idea into animation. The story is focused on the main character so I also plan to make him stick out compared to the rest of the citizens to make the main character feel different from the rest. I hope to make some progress by at least finishing the weapon for the story and brainstorming some ideas on how I want the town and landscape to look by next post.

Work Log
Monday:Brainstormed ideas
Tuesday:discussed about concept with Mr.Bomboy and narrowed down on what to do
Wednesday:Looked up sword ideas
Thursday:Started work on one sword idea
Friday: Re-started with different sword

Color Theory Blog Post

There is a lot I learned from this color theory assignment. There is a lot you can do with color such as showing emotion just through color and expressing a setting. These skills are pretty important in modern art and animation and are used quite often from Disney to common artists.
Leaving this exercise there is a lot I realize I can do with color theory and my project. From monochromatic to double complementary I have options on how I want to approach my project with this. I want to have a calming setting with the main character examining his surroundings. My goal to accomplish this is with calming complementary colors to express this. My character is sitting in a mini forest when he gets up from his reading his book and examines his surroundings. Since my character is a mannequin the way I would express him is through colored accessories. His character has a black top-hat which can express a type of sophisticated character.
The setting I feel would be easier to express. Since it's in a forest we have green trees but to go with them I would either have red flowers or apples hanging from these trees to give it more life and a calming tone. I would also like to add a little lake/river to further improve on this calming tone. To also do this I wouldn't use bright version of these colors and probably more muddied and/or have the value of these colors turned down. These are the ideas on where I would like to take my project with what I have learned from color theory and I hope I fulfill these ideas.

Character Action Scavenger Hunt

Idle Animation
This type of animation is used to give the character life so that when they are standing still it doesn't look like there just frozen and standing there all lifeless.

Running Animation
This animation is used to give a character an animation for when to faster than walking. With how fast they are running is really gives a feeling of the character moving fast. This animation is used a lot with character models.

Robot Arm Project

Throughout doing this project I had my ups and downs. I had fun trying to model all these objects and giving them little features. Trying to set up the armature for the robot arm itself was a tricky but I was able to get it to work with the model. A big problem I only saw after it was rendered was the fact that I didn't notice I had to reapply certain textures that needed it, so those certain models turned pink. Overall this was a nice project to work on, I just have to really apply myself in order for it to turn out the best it can be.

Pendulum Animation Reflection

Overall on this project I thought I had a great idea I could have put together but I seemed to not have worked on it as much as I should have. Compared to others I thought it did alright but something I would like to change was the camera movement. The movement was too fast and didn't let you see the surroundings and such, it was a bit too rushed. Besides the camera there some more ideas I thought I could add and if I put more effort into it thought it could have to turned out better. Throughout this project I was able to put multiple things I learned from last year to use to me here and really refresh on some subjects. I think I could put more ideas to use and really focus on camera movements and make them smooth instead of all fast and jagged. In the end I felt like this project could have turned out way better if I went with some other ideas and implemented some other things and just really but my abilities to their best use and really come up with some more creative ideas.

Pendulum Animations

Design principles and camera movements are very important in modern media. These are used to convey emotions and ideas. In my second animation I used different camera movements to portray someone entering a store. Also in both of these animations I used a emphasis design principle to give the pocket watch the spotlight of these animations. These two things are crucial to media and will be used in all of it,

Design Principle Ideas

Part
1
Part
2

I decided to choose the first picture of part 1. I felt it gave the pendulum emphasis while also giving it a interesting background with other ideas like repetition. I will be making a glass display counter with some other watches inside it with a sign in the back. With some repetition of vertical lines on the wall. I will then use make those rectangular ceiling lights to light up the entire area.

Camera Movement Meanings

Camera movements have a big impact to films they can portray and enforce many things depending on what you are trying to do. They can range from zooming in or out to portray emphasis or they may use a certain angle to show power or lack their of. Here are a few of movements and how they may contribute.

Crane Down: This shot can be used as a way of introducing a viewer to the scene or character or it can portray the size of an object or show just how small a person may be to such and object.

Crane High to Low: Similar to crane down except this shot is used to emphasize a character to show authority and fear

Handheld Camera:This type of shot is used to convey danger or fear. Some may even this type of shot a lot especially if they have a type of crewman character. The fact that the camera is shaking is what changes things up since throughout the movie a camera usually is in a still manner.

Quick Pan: A quick pan can be used to show a quick change in emotion. Such as revealing a unexpected character that seemed to pop out of nowhere.

Quick Push In: This camera action also conveys fear or shock by quickly zooming into the characters face.

Slow Dolly In: This shot can create tension or try and show us how the character is feeling at the moment.

Slow Dolly Out: Like the dolly in except instead of tension it can make the viewer feel the character as isolated and empathy.

Dolly Across: This shot can reveal a change of emotion depending on what the emphasis is being shown as.

Glidecam Camera: This shot can create a idea that the action at hand is important and/or epic. If you were to do the same thing with a handheld camera it may seem like a more edgy or dangerous event.

Glidecam 360 Reveal: This type of shot can convey an upcoming problem, something big ahead of the characters that they are getting prepared to face about ready to head into.

Zolly: A zolly is a zoom mixed with a dolly, using this can make a background get bigger or smaller while leaving the character the same size to really convey importance, giving a emotional feeling.
